    Cliff Hall

    Presenter: Cliff Hall

Cliff Hall is a Software Architect with over 25 years experience in the industry.

His career has run the gamut from writing games in machine language for Commodore 64 and Apple II to implementation of large scale, object-oriented, enterprise applications.

In 1993, he created Synapse: The Multimedia Journal of the Eclectic - the first CDROM-based digital magazine (or ‘digizine'), which delivered multimedia text, audio, video, animation, and interactive VR through an organic user interface nearly a year before the first web browsers appeared.

He is the owner of Futurescale, Inc., where he builds Rich Internet Applications for major corporations and extremely cool startups worldwide. He is the Architect of the Open Source PureMVC Framework.

    Locking Down the App

Zarqon is a new tool for embedding feature-level license control into your Flex and AIR applications. It’s secure, easy to implement and best of all it doesn’t require you and your users to trust its creator with serving and protecting your license data. Amazon S3 is one of largest and most reliable cloud storage platforms on the net and Zarqon uses it to store your licenses for pennies a month. Its design makes it invulnerable to ‘keygen’ cracks, and AS3 de-compilation will divulge only that if you don’t have the secret, you’re still not in the club.

Food & Beverage sponsor is: On3 Flex Training

Venue sponsor is: On3 Flex Training

    Presentation #1

Sean Moore - Adobe Flex RobotLegs Evangelist

    Presenter: Sean Moore

Sean has been developing web applications since 1998. He's been passionate about Flash and ActionScript development for over eight years and working with Flex for over three years. He was chosen to be a Flex Developer Community Champion by Adobe for his hard work and dedication to the Flash Platform Community. Sean is a certified Flash developer and also a certified Flex developer. Sean specializes in the development of Adobe AIR applications. He is the creator of the ActionScript Cheatsheets. Sean has provided development and consulting services for 2Advanced, Adobe Consulting and Universal Mind. He's also worked with many small businesses on Flash, Flex and AIR applications. Sean has written Flex and AIR articles for Adobe, O'Reilly and Flash Magazine. He's provided

technical authoring for Manning Publications, Addison Wesley and O'Reilly. Sean has also given presentations at various user groups on best practices for Flex development.

    Description:

RobotLegs is an IoC framework that's been rising on the Flex framework scene. It's a pure AS3 microarchitecture so it can be used in non-Flex projects as well. One thing that I like about the framework is that it does a pretty good job of telling you what's wrong when you're building your app. For example it'll let you know if you've missed adding a class to the context. In this presentation I'll show you how to set up a Flex app from the ground up using RobotLegs. In addition I'll show you how to set up Flex Unit with RobotLets so that you can write unit tests or do test driven development for your project. I've worked with several Flex frameworks and RobotLegs is one of my favorites so far. This will be more of a live coding session than a theoretical talk about IoC. In this session you'll learn how to set up your package structure, create a context, create a central data model, map events to commands, create and communicate with services, set up your views and use mediators as backing classes that will contain the ActionScript for them. I'll also share a technique that I've been using that splits the context up so there isn't one giant class to manage.
