Basic question about FlexBuilder 3

Jim

I just downloaded and installed FB3, and I'm working through the examples in "Learning Flex 3" by Cole.  However, I'm not able to run applications - I get an error message saying that FB3 can't find the Flash plugin, even though it was installed along with FB3.  When this first happened, I uninstalled FB3 and reinstalled, but I still get the same result.  Has anyone experienced the same problem?

Thanks,

J Cook

Which version of flash do you have installed?  Hopefully you don't have any old config data laying around from previous installs.  Possible order of install weirdness??  Good luck.

Try just going to any site that has Flash/Flex content with your browser to see if it loads  properly. If that still works your probably getting a conflict with loading the debug version of the Flash player during your install. I'm assuming PC so you may need to uninstall the current Flash Player plug in and try your installation again.  Also the general stuff like do you have a virsus scan running during the install. I've installed Flex 2 & Flex 3 and they generally work out of the box when you just let it default during installation.

Right click on your flex project, select properties, then select flex compiler. What version of Flash Player does it say under: Require Flash Player version:

Change the version to 10.0.0 if you want to build flex apps for the latest version of the flash player.

then try running your flex app. if you don't have version 10 installed, it should install it.

However, I do recall having a similar problem a while back and at the time I just unistalled the Flash Player that FB3 installed and installed Flash Player 9 and everything was good.

Good Luck,

I finally figured out why Flex Builder wasn't finding the correct version of Flash Player.  By default, the browser setting at Window>Preferences>General>WebBrowser was set to "Use internal web browser."  Things started working just fine after I changed the setting to "Use external web browser" and selected Firefox.  Just thought I'd pass that on.

Happy new year!
